Erwin Viado's "Lies X Likeness" debuts at Oxford International Art Fair
Erwin Viado’s newest works made its international debut at the Oxford International Art Fair 2017 in Oxford Town Hall, United Kingdom from 24th – 26th February.
Viado’s second collection, “Lies X Likeness” delves into the conflict between intimacy and self- isolation, gaining more mainstream eminence in the millennial generation. “Where the voice of the past was as uncomplicated as having pre-defined structures of success, today’s struggles and complexities cut more on where one is, as a person. This collection, with its vibrant and loud colours, distinct patterns and take on portraiture, is a collation of thoughts and views on how one is perceived in relation to identity, family, career, society, friendships, romance, religion and the everyday dictates of one’s evolving circle of influence – versus the subject’s take of it from within himself,” enthuses Viado.
Drawing from modern realities and his love for Urban Pop Art, Viado’s love for the whimsical is yet captured in this collection. His collection of works is constantly progressing but two remain constant – his genuine conveyance of himself, and its resonance in an audience heart, capturing a moment in time, relived through his paintings.
Being a young, impassioned artist, Viado’s work is steadily gaining a global eclectic audience - from his participation at the World Art Dubai, United Arab Emirates and a Mixed Bag group exhibition in Aberdeen, Scotland both in 2015 to his very first successful solo art exhibition at the prestigious ArtistSpace of the Ayala Museum, Philippines.
About the Artist
Erwin Viado is a Filipino painter, whose love for popular culture has been the defining subjects of his personal style and character as an artist. His works are almost always aesthetically pleasant –characterized by pastel color palettes, identifiable patterns and meticulously spot-on subjects present in the everyday joie de vivre or banality of life. He veers away from an artist’s traditionalist take on outrage and offense but rather portray life’s difficult discussions with a sense of truth, understanding, contemplation, tolerance and an association with his subjects. In his first collection titled, “Within the Concaval Walls”, his childlike fascination and wonder on the whimsical was it its core while taking on human fantasies of passion, romance, artistry, power, mystery, fame, sophistication, innocence, seduction, faith and sensuality. This dichotomy of the real and fantastical world, all portrayed using hushed tones, subdued hues, direct strokes and a tinge of satire.
